Historical charm
The Clemenger's Cottage

Named after William Clemenger (‘Clem’), Gundaroo’s first Postmaster, this heritage-listed cottage was built in 1887 — once his home, later the local Post Office, and later still the village General Store. Today it’s been lovingly restored to become a warm, homely retreat, its history quietly woven into every corner as it sits proudly opposite ‘Clem’s Memorial’ on Cork St.
The cottage sleeps up to four, with a queen bed in one room and two single beds in the other — ideal for a couple, a small family, or friends travelling together. A comfortable lounge and full kitchen make it easy to settle in and feel truly at home, while the bathroom offers a well-appointed shower.
Thanks to its solid heritage walls, the cottage stays naturally cool through summer, while a wood-fired heater and reverse-cycle air conditioning keep things comfortable whatever the season.
Parking is free and available at the front door. Complimentary Wi-Fi and breakfast provisions are also included in your stay.
WHERE HISTORY LIVES ON
Who was William Clemenger?
Long before he became the namesake of our cottage, William Clemenger (Clem) arrived in Gundaroo in 1882 as a 17-year-old telegraph operator, later rising to become the village’s first postmaster — a role he held for over three decades. Known locally as a keen sportsman, writer and community figure, his legacy is still honoured today with a memorial in the village. Guests staying at Clemenger’s Cottage, which is part of The Nest at Gundaroo, can experience a genuine piece of local history firsthand.
